Divemasters course with Steve and Deris

Your instructor or your mentor during your PADI divemasters course can make or break your experience. And at Dive Central Gili they only come in the highest quality.

Our instructors take pride in teaching the PADI divemasters course. It’s a challenge for both mentor and trainee. Most importantly though is that it’s a huge amount of fun. We spoke to Deris and Steve who both are instructors and managers at the PADI 5 star resort, Dive Central Gili.

Why do you like teaching the PADI divemaster course so much?

Deris: I like teaching the PADI divemaster because it’s the truest way to see someone switch from a recreational diver to the mindset of a professional diver at the end.

Steve: I enjoy teaching and influencing someone to become an instructor or fantastic guide. Trying to mold them in your eyes of what makes a good diver. It’s nice when someone is on the same path or mindset as you are.

Why should someone do they dive masters? Even if they don’t necessarily wish to work in diving?

Deris: If they don’t want to pursue professional diving it is a good way to spend time doing lots of dives and learning a bit more than just diving for fun.

Steve: The love you have for diving and the ocean becomes more remarkable. You also come out of the divemaster course with a stronger personality and you are able to carry yourself more confidently.

What are the fundamental skills that you learn during your Dicemasters course?

Deris: Professionalisms is the main skill as it is a service orientated business mentor.

Steve: A big part is customer relations as well as social interactions. Mainly I find you become a strong ambassador for the environment because you see it everyday. You see the impact people have on the ocean and you become more strongly attached to it. You see the ocean in a different light.

What is dive central’s Divemasters course philosophy?

Deris: We strive to create role models who are prepared for the next step, may that be becoming a PADI instructor or any other path. Our divemasters are full of knowledge and are able to answer the questions that other divers might have.

Steve: Being a medium sized dive center we offer a more personal interaction with the instructors. More one on one time. The divemaster trainee to mentor relationship has a very strong bond. We as a school constantly receive good feedback that our divermasters are well prepared when they decide to become PADI Instructors.
